One of our favorite things to do is get together to enjoy fine wine with our friends–both the two-legged and four-legged variety. The Million Mutt March, October 16, 2011
The Million Mutt March is a 5K run/walk in support of positive, solution-oriented change for animals in Louisville sponsored by No Kill Louisville. Please join us on Sunday, Oct. 16, at Cherokee Park as we show our city and regional leaders that our companion pets are a priority. Dogs are welcome, but not required. The Bluegrass Brewing Company presents Dogtoberfest on Sunday, October 30, from 2pm-7pm, at the St. Matthews location, 3929 Shelbyville Road. It will feature a costume contest where the winner receives the honor of having a BBC beer named after their dog for one month. Additional contest categories include: dog/owner look-alike, best trick, and best looking. There will be hourly raffles with proceeds going towards Saving Sunny and the Kentucky Humane Society. Vines & Canines is proud to participate in the Kentucky Humane Society’s 18th annual benefit Tuxes & Tails gala event. It will be held August 27th, at the Galt House, and feature a silent auction, open bar, and hors d’oeuvres followed by a delicious dinner, live auction, adoptable pets, and much more! Last year’s benefit auction & gala raised more than $155,000, which helped thousands of homeless animals in our care. Let’s save the date & make this year’s event even better! Vines & Canines is pleased to announce that our products are now featured in the Regalo gift shop on Barret Ave (next to Lynn’s Paradise Cafe). On the 3rd Wednesday of each month Regalo has a “Happy Hour” from 5–8 pm. It’s a wonderful time to shop for great specials and have a drink! Check them out at regaloart.com. Pitty Fairness is Saving Sunny’s major fundraising event of the season. It was a pet-friendly art and music fair celebrating the positive movement for Pit Bulls. This FREE event featured celebrity guests, Luigi “Shorty” Rossi and Hercules from the Animal Planet show, Pit Boss. Pitty Fairness takes place at Central Park in Old Louisville (4th & Magnolia). There was lots of music, a Pit Bull costume contest, a puppy kissing booth, local craftsman selling items, and an assortment of animal-related booths with adoptable animals. We participated in the Kentucky Humane Society’s 17th annual fundraiser Waggin’ Trail Walk for the Animals. It was a huge success! Over 600 pet lovers and their dogs took to the trails at EP Tom Sawyer State Park on Saturday, May 21st in support of pets in need at KHS. They raised over $90,000 and fun was had by all. The event included a fun walk and 5K run, many family-friendly activities, adoptable pets, low-cost microchipping, behavior and agility demos, contests with prizes, vendor booths, music and entertainment, and some delicious treats for pets and people. This was the very first event we hosted! We had an amazing time. The weather was absolutely perfect and we got to share many good times with others in the Vines & Canines community. We featured 15 select select wines, live jazz from FattLab and delicious food catered by Jack Tapp.With a portion of proceeds going to the Kentucky Humane Society, we were also able to raise some money for their great organization. We also learned a lot. It was a great experience, and now that we have one event under our belt, our next get-together promises to be even better. We can’t wait!
